Padmini Ray Murray

Padmini has joined Obvious after a career in academic research and teaching, and draws on her considerable experience developed across a range of interests. Padmini has a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, after which she was a lecturer in publishing and digital media at the University of Stirling. Her industry experience includes Canongate Books, the Edinburgh International Book Festival, Edinburgh University Press and closer home, Seagull Books in Kolkata.

During her time in the UK, Padmini worked with and consulted for a number of organisations such as NESTA and Wikimedia UK where she was on the Board of Trustees. She has published a number of articles that explore the impact of technology on culture, feminism and design, and has spoken and keynoted at a wide range of industry and academic conferences.

After returning to India in 2015, Padmini established and led the first Masters programme in Digital Humanities in India at the Srishti Institute of Art, Technology and Design. In 2018, Padmini founded the Design Beku collective to help not-for-profit organisations explore their potential through research-led design and digital development.
